About the Course

Learning Curve: Easy/Medium

Social Media Management is a two-week intensive bootcamp designed for individuals with a demonstrated interest in digital marketing and want to develop the skills necessary to understand social media at a strategic level. Participants will gain knowledge of the social media ecosystem and learn the tools and techniques to design and execute a comprehensive social media strategy. Upon completion of this course, trainees will have a strong foundation across the social media spectrum to better position themselves for entry-level positions as social-savvy marketers, publicists or community managers.

At the end of this course all students will be given the opportunity to receive introductory certification in Hootsuite, a Social Media Management tool.

+ WEEK 1: June 5 - 9

The first week of this two-week bootcamp will focus on the digital media environment and the social media strategic planning process. Trainees will explore the evolution of digital marketing, Web 2.0, network structure, and social media’s role in the broader communication landscape. Trainees will develop a broad knowledge of social networks, communities, users, platforms and trends, while learning to navigate the planning, launch, and maintenance phases of initiating a branded social identity.

+ WEEK 2: June 12 - 16

The second week begins exploring social entertainment, gamification and social commerce practices. Influencer marketing, visual storytelling, video marketing, social listening, and social media monitoring tools and tactics will be discussed. The bootcamp wraps-up with social media measurement, benchmarking and digital ROI and a look at the future of social media and commerce.

The Digital Media & Design Department is located on the third floor of the main UConn Stamford campus. DMCT students will enjoy exclusive access to three contemporary learning spaces that include: 2 computer labsa video production space, and a room dedicated to digital play and exploration. Spaces host a variety of technology that includes, 3D Imaging, 3D Printing, and Virtual Reality, as well as a wide selection of professional production equipment that will be available to DMCT students throughout their duration in the program. 

The UConn Stamford campus is located at the heart of downtown Stamford, with easy access from I95, and the Merritt Parkway. Metered parking is available on Franklyn Street and the UConn parking garage on Washington Blvd.

Metro-North Railroad connects the campus community, to New Haven and New York City, and provides easy access throughout Fairfield County. Below is a list of towns that offer direct service to the Stamford train station.
